Our National Account Director, Nigel Deacon is hosting breakout session alongside London Borough of Hounslow’s Caretaking and Concierge Manager, Andrea Tidy. The session will explore how the London borough closed refuse chutes to reduce fire risk in high risk buildings.
About the session:
The effective management of refuse in high-rise blocks is critical to maintaining the safety and wellbeing of residents, and the London Borough of Hounslow made a commitment a year or so back to go over and above the minimum requirements, with a plan to decommission all refuse chutes over the next 5 years due to their innate fire risk.
Many organisations have shied away from such a move, and the team at Hounslow knew that they would need the residents firmly on board in order to execute the change successfully. They also knew that the replacement facilities would need to be carefully located and designed in such a way that they would be easy for the residents to use.
Three months ago, the carefully-rehearsed plans slid into action, and thanks to some sterling work from Hounslow’s caretaking teams, metroSTOR and Coalo as Main Contractor, we are now getting excellent feedback from residents on the improvements to their environment and recycling has gone through the roof.
