Newbattle Housing: Combining Sustainability and Practicality

The Newbattle Housing development in Midlothian demonstrates how high-performance Passivhaus homes can be supported by well-integrated, practical infrastructure. Delivered for Midlothian Council and Melville Housing Association, the 118-home scheme combines energy-efficient design with carefully planned external spaces.

A total of 66 metroSTOR PBR bin stores and two combined PBH bin and cycle units were installed across the site, delivering secure, durable and visually consistent infrastructure. The solution helps reduce street clutter, improve waste management and encourage cycling by providing accessible, secure storage. As part of one of the council’s largest Passivhaus programmes, the project highlights how thoughtful integration of essential infrastructure can enhance both sustainability and long-term liveability.
