The Granville Road Estate regeneration in Childs Hill, Barnet, was a large-scale residential redevelopment delivering 132 new homes alongside significant improvements to the estate’s public realm, landscaping and community infrastructure. Designed to create a sustainable mixed-tenure neighbourhood, the project transformed an ageing estate into a modern residential environment. As part of the wider regeneration works, metroSTOR supplied purpose-built bin storage solutions to support efficient waste management, enhance the appearance of communal areas and complement the overall quality of the development.
A key part of the Granville Road Estate regeneration was the improvement of day-to-day estate infrastructure, including upgraded refuse and recycling provision. As new homes, landscaped routes and communal amenity spaces were introduced, the waste storage needed to support the practical operation of the development while contributing to a cleaner, more attractive and better-managed environment for residents.
metroSTOR’s bin storage enclosure was designed to complement the wider vision for the estate. Finished with a powder-coated frame and clad in natural timber, the structure was carefully integrated into the surrounding architecture and public realm, sitting comfortably alongside the new planting, seating areas, play area and pedestrian routes. Rather than appearing as a purely functional utility structure, the enclosure contributes positively to the visual quality of the development and reinforces the investment made throughout the regenerated neighbourhood. By providing an attractive and well-considered facility, the installation helps foster a greater sense of pride and ownership amongst residents, encouraging shared spaces to be respected, cared for and enjoyed as part of everyday community life.

The inclusion of a living sedum roof further enhances the installation’s environmental credentials, introducing additional biodiversity and softening the appearance of the structure within the landscape. Together, these design elements help create a more welcoming and attractive setting, supporting the wider regeneration goal of creating a positive, sustainable neighbourhood where residents feel connected to their surroundings.
Alongside aesthetics and functionality, security was a key consideration. The enclosure incorporates a Latch + Code secure locking system, restricting access to residents and authorised users only. By helping to deter unauthorised use, fly-tipping and other forms of misuse, the system supports a cleaner environment and contributes to a safer, more positive communal setting.
Double-door access was also incorporated to ensure the enclosure could be used efficiently by residents, estate management teams and waste collection operatives. The result is a secure, durable and thoughtfully designed piece of estate infrastructure that supports the wider regeneration objectives at Granville Road – improving facilities, enhancing the resident experience and helping to create a neighbourhood that people are proud to call home.
