As landlords we’re all becoming increasingly concerned about Lithium-ion batteries. Fires and explosions arising from devices and batteries that were of poor quality, or had been damaged or misused, have been responsible for at least 12 fatalities and 190 injuries in the UK over the last 4 years. So, statistically, it’s probably fair to conclude that it’s only a matter of time before an incident occurs in one of our own buildings.

metroSTOR are therefore delighted to be supporting The Safety of Electric-Powered Micromobility Vehicles and Lithium Batteries Bill which Electrical Safety First are proposing to address the alarming rise in deaths and injuries resulting from these devices.

Proposed measures include:

• Safety Assurance – Third-party safety assessment for all e-bikes, e-scooters, and lithium-ion batteries before they enter the UK market.
• Responsible Disposal – Regulations ensuring the safe disposal of lithium batteries once their lifecycle ends.
• Comprehensive Fire Safety – Safe usage, charging, and storage practices for these devices, standards for conversion kits and charging systems.
