Cleaner streets for Kirkstone Road: metroSTOR bin installations prove a success
Kirkstone Road North in Litherland has undergone a real transformation with the installation of a smart and durable bin storage system. This neighbourhood had long struggled with waste disposal due to a kerbside bin bag collection system, which frequently led to illegal dumping and scattered rubbish. Recognising the need for a smarter solution, One Vision Housing and Sefton Council partnered with metroSTOR to introduce dedicated bin storage areas that are both secure and accessible. Four months later, fly-tipping is down, streets are cleaner and the community are loving the positive, sustainable change.
The new bin stores incorporate the metroSTOR PBM 4 Bin Storage Housings and metroSTOR PBLE Bin Locking Enclosures, both designed to provide a more efficient and organised waste management system. The enclosed PBM units accommodate larger 4-wheeled with controlled front-loading apertures to prevent wind-blown litter, while the PBLE system provides structured and upright storage for smaller 2-wheeled bins. Together, these innovations have drastically improved waste containment and disposal for residents at Kirkstone Road North.
The installation has already had a measurable impact. Neil Kenwright, Head of Neighbourhood Services at One Vision Housing, shared his enthusiasm:
“The installation at the Kirkstone Road North site has been a great success, delivering exactly as promised. Just a few months in, we’ve already seen noticeably less litter and fly-tipping. Elected Members are delighted! The business case shows that the new bins will pay for themselves in three years, making it a smart long-term investment, despite budget challenges. We are really impressed and would highly recommend metroSTOR again.”
To further support the initiative, Sefton Council continues to provide a bulky waste collection service, allowing residents to dispose of large household items affordably and responsibly. Additionally, One Vision Housing is leading community action days, promoting litter picking, waste disposal education and engagement with local residents.
metroSTOR were delighted to collaborate on this project and it’s fantastic to hear news of such positive and immediate impact, post installation.
