ScopemetroSTOR PSL Mobility Scooter Charging Locker

Since 1978, Clwyd Alyn, a registered social landlord, has built a management portfolio with over 6,000 units of accommodation all over North Wales. They have a simple mission statement of ‘together to beat poverty’ with a commitment to ensure that everyone in North Wales has access to high quality housing.

Clwyd Alyn encourages their residents to live independently and frequently have to review and risk assess arrangements for the safe storage and charging of mobility scooters. Powered mobility devices can pose a potential fire risk when stored within a resident’s home or a communal area, and even when not the source of a fire, mobility scooters have the potential to hinder essential emergency egress routes. Therefore careful consideration is given to the placement and charging of personal mobility devices.

Clwyd Alyn approached metroSTOR looking to test an external storage and charging solution to house an individual Class 1 or 2 mobility scooter or electric wheelchair at one of their residential properties in Hafan Glyd, Shotton. The unit needed to be located to the front of the property occupying a minimal footprint and without hindering access to the property.

A metroSTOR PSL Mobility Scooter Charging Locker was installed to provide a secure external charging point and mitigate fire risk for residents. For ease of use the unit has a power assisted lifting roof which automatically releases when the locker is opened with the roof control switch located internally next to the charging panel and motion sensor lighting. The powered roof control provides the added benefit of ensuring the unit maintains a low profile and is ideally suited to property frontage locations. The locker was finished with Firenze steel cladding powder coated in Anthracite Grey.

The metroSTOR PSL site-assembled panel system makes installation in difficult to access areas straightforward and the unit power requirements can be run from an outdoor RCD protected wall socket helping to reduce site set up costs and enabling future relocation if required.

metroSTOR has now installed thousands of mobility scooter charging stations across the UK and units such as the metroSTOR PSL help to significantly reduce the fire risk posed by powered mobility devices such as electric wheelchairs, e-scooters and e-bikes, including those with lithium-ion batteries.
