Are individual homes safe from e-bike and e-scooter blaze risks?
The UK is facing a worrying spike in fires connected to lithium-ion batteries, which power e-bikes and e-scooters. The London Fire Brigade has noted a rise in incidents involving these devices. In 2018, there were just five incidents, whereas the first half of 2023 saw 91 incidents.
Lithium-fuelled fires can quickly and easily destroy a property and as such, legislation and guidance prohibiting the storage of e-devices in communal areas is clear.
However, safe behaviours regarding e-mobility batteries inside individual flats, apartments and houses is crucial.
metroSTOR believes that it is important to create dialogue and share what’s working with residents and staff, highlighting the risks posed by Lithium-ion batteries if not used, stored and charged correctly. We aim to showcase how effective practices can be implemented in your community.
Find out about the groups leading the way in innovative education for all on safe use of e-mobility devices, such as LFB’s #ChargeSafe campaign and partnership with Deliveroo who have organised ‘Rider Roadshow’, reaching out to individual users.
Promote best practices such as steps taken by Gentoo Housing Association in Sunderland, who are offering vital e-vehicle health check services and educational outreach for individuals in their homes.
