Webinar – Pest Control: Multi-Agency Approaches that Work

Waste Management Design

Rats and other pests are among the most persistent problems on housing estates, often linked to waste management and outdated infrastructure, which is not always fit to serve today’s waste needs.

In this webinar, Helen Scott and Jo Briggs from Sheffield City Council share their firsthand experience in tackling these challenges. They will discuss data-led investigation, education, enforcement and a coordinated multi-agency strategy for tacking pest control issues in social housing.

Focusing on the Landsdowne Estate in Sheffield, Helen and Jo will explain how a combination of quick wins and long-term planning delivered measurable improvements for residents. The discussion will highlight the importance of infrastructure, engagement and monitoring in maintaining success and building resilience against future pest outbreaks.

As part of the session, the metroSTOR team will also provide practical insight into how well-designed waste storage and containment systems can help prevent infestations, reduce contamination and improve estate conditions overall.

Real-world examples will demonstrate how proactive monitoring, resident education and well-maintained waste facilities combine to create lasting change. The event will also touch on the crucial role that effective waste storage design plays in preventing pest access and supporting wider estate management goals.

This session, hosted by metroSTOR in partnership with Sheffield City Council, provides practical insight for anyone responsible for housing estate management or waste services, with strategies that can be replicated across diverse housing settings.
