Dam Head Estate, Blackley
metroSTOR have been working with the Northwards Housing team to help solve waste and recycling storage issues for residents on the Dam Head Estate in Blackley, Manchester. Northwards Housing is a not-for-profit ALMO that manages over 13,000 City Council homes across the north of Manchester.
With existing waste storage facilities consisting of six steel fenced enclosures across the estate containing wheeled bins, the familiar issues of side waste, fly tipping and contaminated recycling streams had become the norm. On Dam Head Estate the annual costs arising from this problem were calculated to be at least £24,000: servicing the bin stores and hiring contractors to remove the side waste rubbish and bulky items with associated disposal charges.
Following a detailed evaluation and consultation process, Northwards Housing installed metroSTOR PBM bin storage units at 16 locations on the Dam Head Estate. Ease of product specification enabled the PBM units to be configured in highly durable Tuffplas recycled HDPE cladding, lever locking access control and recycling specific apertures with bespoke signage. Working closely with Northwards Housing, metroSTOR has become a trusted single source provider from project management and enabling civils works to aftercare.
metroSTOR bin housings have drastically reduced waste clearance costs and improved amenity areas for Northwards Housing and the residents of Dam Head Estate. Since installation of the metroSTOR units, there have been no reported issues of fly-tipping, despite this area being a problematic area for waste management.
